Blogs are just about being used for as many purposes as there are blogs, but the publication of the self online is an interesting concept in relation to work. There are the examples of the blogger being fired from google and the airline hostess (I don’t know why google gave me a link to the china daily coverage of the story…). While Gates and others in the corporate world have been pushing the use of blogs as a business stratgey it is interesting to see the uses of blogs as organisational tools in open source and even in non-profit. I hope to perhaps investigate the potential of this blog in it’s application to the non-profit sector, but the divisions between student, commentator and (charity) actor need to perhaps be demarcated a bit more strongly than with just post topic headings.

Sent off an email to RMIT ITS to see if I can get a whole internet connection rather than just web access from the labs so that I can access some webspace I have. As I see it the blog and the personal webpage are not too different, the blog just brings in another layer of abstraction from the running of a webpage, automation and ease of use. The blog’s qualities as a particular type of CMS are well known, but I think playing around with some other stuff concurrently with this blog can’t hurt.

I haven’t used wordpress before but I can see why people like it as a backend for their sites. It’s not bad at all. Very simple and effective way of getting text and links across for someone who doesn’t want to do their own HTML and CSS.
